Double chance is a bet that covers two of the three results in a home, draw, away market. You pick one pair and win if either result in it happens, but the odds are shorter than on any one result. This page defines the three pairs, works the cost out from three round prices, and then compares double chance with three other market names you will meet. For where these markets sit among the rest, see the full betting markets overview.
The three double chance outcomes
A three-way market has home win (1), draw (X) and away win (2). Double chance pairs them in the only three possible ways.
| Code | Covers | Loses only if |
|---|---|---|
| 1X | Home win or draw | Away wins |
| 12 | Home win or away win | The match is drawn |
| X2 | Draw or away win | Home wins |
Each bet has one losing result. That is why it is safer than a single pick and why it pays less.
What the cover costs in price: a worked example
These prices are round numbers chosen for the arithmetic. They are not odds from WJ2 or any book. Suppose the three-way market reads home 2.50, draw 3.00, away 3.00.
- Turn each price into an implied chance: 1 / 2.50 = 0.400, 1 / 3.00 = 0.333, 1 / 3.00 = 0.333.
- Add the two chances your pair covers.
- Divide 1 by that sum to get the price.
| Bet | Chances added | Price (1 / sum) | Return on ₱100 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home alone | 0.400 | 2.50 | ₱250 |
| 1X | 0.400 + 0.333 = 0.733 | 1.36 | ₱136 |
| 12 | 0.400 + 0.333 = 0.733 | 1.36 | ₱136 |
| X2 | 0.333 + 0.333 = 0.667 | 1.50 | ₱150 |
Backing home alone at 2.50 pays ₱250 on a ₱100 stake. Backing 1X at 1.36 pays ₱136, so you give up ₱114 of return to also win on a draw. A real book adds its own margin, so the price on your slip can be shorter still. Read the figure on the slip, and see what your stake becomes at a price for the return sum.
Both teams to score: a two-way market
Both teams to score, often written BTTS, asks one yes or no question: does each side score at least once? It has two outcomes, so there is no pairing and no double chance. Example: a ₱100 stake at a yes price of 1.80 returns ₱180, a profit of ₱80. Some books let you combine it with a result, and the combined price is set by the book.
Half time full time: nine results
Half time full time asks you to name the result at the break and at full time together. With three results at each point there are 3 x 3 = 9 outcomes, such as draw at half time and home win at full time. Each outcome is rare, so prices are longer than on a plain result. Double chance does not apply to each half separately unless the book lists it.
Outright bet: a different kind of cover
An outright bet is on a long-running result, such as who wins a league or tournament, with many selections. Double chance does not exist there because the field is not three-way. The matching safety net is a place bet, which pays for a finish inside a set number of positions at shorter odds. Example: ₱100 on a winner at 8.00 returns ₱800, while the same selection to finish in the top three at 2.50 returns ₱250.
When double chance changes a cash out
- Place 1X for ₱100 at 1.36.
- If home scores early, the chance of the bet winning rises.
- The early payout offered rises with it, though it stays below the full return.
How that figure is built is set out in what cash out means on a slip. The steps are an illustration, not a quote from any book.
FAQ
What does double chance mean in betting?
It covers two of the three results in a match-result market with one bet. 1X is home or draw, 12 is home or away and X2 is draw or away. If either covered result happens, the bet wins.
Why is the double chance price lower?
You win on two results, so the chance of winning is higher and the decimal price is lower than either result alone. A rough check is one divided by the sum of the two implied chances.
Is double chance the same as a draw no bet?
No. Double chance covers the draw as a winning result. Draw no bet returns your stake on a draw instead, which is a push-style result.
Pwede ba ang double chance sa lahat ng laro?
Only where the market is three-way, with a draw as a possible result. Check the market list for the match to see whether it is offered.
