The stake meaning is simple: a stake is the money you put on one bet. It is not the price and not your winnings: the stake is the part you control, and the price decides what comes back. This page keeps to one idea, how a stake turns into a return, and sits inside the wider map of betting markets on one match. Sports betting is for players aged 21 and above.
Stake meaning: stake, return and profit
Three words get mixed up on every slip. Here they are side by side, using one example you can check by hand. The numbers are an example for arithmetic, not a price from any book.
| Term | What it is | Example (₱100 at decimal 2.50) |
|---|---|---|
| Stake | The money you put on the bet | ₱100 |
| Return | Everything paid back on a win, stake included | ₱100 times 2.50 = ₱250 |
| Profit | The return minus the stake | ₱250 minus ₱100 = ₱150 |
| Loss | The stake, if the bet loses | ₱100 lost, nothing returned |
The rule is the same every time: return equals stake times decimal price, and profit equals return minus stake. If the same price is written as fractional 3/2, the profit is the stake times 3/2, which is also ₱150. The odds conversion between formats page shows how to move a price from one style to another.
What a single bet looks like on a slip
A single bet is one selection on one market with one stake. It is the cleanest way to see the stake meaning, because there is only one price to apply.
- Choose a match and one market, for example the match result.
- Click one selection so it appears on the slip.
- Type the stake in pesos, for example ₱200.
- Read the possible return the slip shows. At decimal 1.80 an example slip would read ₱360.
- Confirm. If the selection wins, ₱360 comes back, which is ₱160 profit.
A combination of two or more selections multiplies the prices before it applies the stake. With two selections at 2.00 and 1.50, the combined price is 2.00 times 1.50, which is 3.00, and a ₱100 stake returns ₱300. The loss on a combination is still only the one stake, but every selection has to win.
Betting units and how to size a stake
Betting units are a way to set the stake in steps instead of picking a new number every time. Choose a unit that you could lose many times without trouble, then stake one unit or a multiple of it. The table uses an example unit of ₱50.
| Confidence you assign | Stake in units | Stake in pesos | Return at decimal 2.00 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 1 unit | ₱50 | ₱100 |
| Medium | 2 units | ₱100 | ₱200 |
| High | 3 units | ₱150 | ₱300 |
The unit size is yours to set, and it should be a small share of the money you set aside for betting. If a run of losses would hurt, the unit is too big. Set the figure before you open a match, and keep it fixed for the session.
Where the stake goes when a bet ends early
A stake can come back in other ways than a win. A bet on a market that is voided is refunded, and some line types end as a refund when the result lands exactly on the line. A stake can also be settled before the match through cash out. The page on cash out meaning in betting shows how the amount offered compares with your stake, and each book states its own cash-out and void rules on its bet slip.
| How the stake ends | What you receive | Example on a ₱100 stake |
|---|---|---|
| Bet wins | Stake times decimal price | ₱250 at 2.50 |
| Bet loses | Nothing | ₱0 |
| Market voided | The stake back | ₱100 |
| Cash out taken | The offer shown at that moment | An offer of ₱120 pays ₱120 |
FAQ
What is the stake meaning in betting?
The stake is the amount you risk on a bet. It is the number you type into the stake box on the slip before you confirm.
Is the stake included in the return?
In decimal odds, yes: the return is stake times price and already contains your stake, so profit is the return minus the stake. In fractional odds the quoted number is profit only, so you add the stake back to get the return.
What is a betting unit?
A unit is a fixed amount a bettor chooses as one stake, such as ₱50, and then bets in multiples of it. Units keep the size of each bet steady and make results easy to compare.
Ano ang stake kapag nanalo at natalo ang bet?
Kapag nanalo, babalik ang stake mo kasama ang kita (sa decimal odds). Kapag natalo, mawawala ang buong stake.
